WELCOME TO GUITAR FIGHT CLUB

I am an aspiring minimalist, and currently I am failing that aspiration by having too damn many guitars. So I’ve devised a test to narrow it down to ones I truly love and feel good about having around.

  • Shredder Division: that is guitars designed to kill a charging Rhino at 60 paces.
  • Rocker Division: is guitars that are not really meant for metal.
  • Strat/Tele Division: For normal Stratocastors and Telecastors,  to be played as either Rockers or on clean tones.

The Tests:

Each Guitar gets played through a set of 10 cover tunes, then a 10-15 minute jam over some backing tracks. Same amps, cabinets and only a reverb and delay for some solos.

This is NOT about promoting any guitar or brand. It is simply me working my way through a process to find what is best FOR ME. Your results will very, and you may not like a thing I like, and that is perfectly fine.

The Criteria:

  • Mistake Level: I find the more I am liking the neck, frets and fretboard, the less mistakes I make.
  • Inspiration: The more I play a guitar and am digging how it feels, the more things I didn’t think I knew come out of me.
  • Scale Freedom: When I am having trouble with the shape of the neck, or the action on a guitar, or sometimes the fretboard material and the size of the frets, I find myself resorting to licks I know I can hit, rather than making music all over that neck.
  • How It Sits: Does it promote me keeping good posture, and can I hold it up for an hour without it destroying my back.
  • Sound Quality (Pickups): Ideally clean dirty and lead tones,

This will allow the losers a second chance at redemption.

Frets are “catchy” but sounds great. Don’t move on.

The dull finish on the back of the neck just ain’t my thing. Don’t move on

3rd Chance

Rocker Division

Frets are gone – display only

Even thought this won, don’t move it on. Has too many issues
