Another Bucket List item: Sunrise church service at Red Rocks in Colorado. Get up at 4:00 AM, drive to Red Rocks (near Morrison, Colorado), stand in line, and find a seat in the dark.
Then curl up in a blanket and watch the sun come up over the stage while a celebration of the birth of Christ is played out on that stage. Absolutely stunning. Only one detail prevented it from being one of the best things ever: One of the ministers started preaching politics, which was so out of place in this setting that it actually prompted very loud booing from the audience. Why do people feel the need to ruin beautiful experiences with political blathering?
Anyway.. you watch the sunset come up over the mountains as the world turns from dark to light. It’s amazing and well worth the effort to participate if you can. This is one of the most popular rituals in all of Colorado… go early and be patient; you won’t be disappointed.
