I lived in Denver for a short time in the 1990s and fell in love with it. But largely because I wanted to go back to college, I moved back to Minnesota. The business took off, bought a house, and then another house, and before you knew it, I was kind of “stuck” with life in the frosty northland.
But as soon as we built an application for Digital Opera that allowed us to work together as a team no matter where any of us were, I finally had no excuses as to why I couldn’t make the business work from anywhere.
It’s really kind of an overwhelming notion to know you are fortunate enough to get to choose where you want to live. I thought about it a lot, and I was open to anything, including living abroad. But Colorado kept coming up over and over again.
So in December of 2013, I made a move, narrowly escaping one of the coldest winters in Minnesota in a very long time.
After being here just a couple of months, I may be still in the honeymoon stages – but I love it here! It’s sunny most of the time, the people are fantastic, I can get outside almost every day, and we are doing some of our best work ever.
But I’ll shut up now and show you a tiny sample of why this state is so awesome. And keep in mind, all of these photos were taken in December and January, and there’s a lot more to come.
